A letter from the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, addressed to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been received. As stated in the letter António Guterres expresses gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the initiative to hold the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza from 5 to 8 August this year, namely:
— Your country’s long-standing commitment to peace and multilateral dialogue has created an appropriate framework for the event. I highly appreciate your role in bringing together participants from all over the world, including heads of state and government, representatives of civil society, youth and the media, around a common agenda.
The conference played a vital role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation and global policy frameworks to enable landlocked developing countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth, while strengthening their ability to withstand future shocks.
The adoption of the Avaza political declaration and the Avaza programme of action represents an ambitious plan of action for the next decade, closely linked to the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These commitments will accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on trade facilitation, structural transformation, transport connectivity, technology, climate resilience and mobilization of international support. – said the UN Secretary-General in his letter.
António Guterres also expressed his deep gratitude to the President and people of Turkmenistan for the hospitality extended to him and the UN delegation, saying:
— “I look forward to working closely with you to ensure the full and effective implementation of the Avaza Programme of Action” – the UN Secretary-General emphasized in his letter to the President of Turkmenistan.
